      Frequently asked questions

What does 18mm to 14mm mean on a downstem? The first number is the joint that drops into the waterpipe and the second is the joint the cone sits in. An 18mm to 14mm stem fits an 18mm socket and accepts a 14mm cone at the other end.

How do I work out what length downstem I need? Measure from the top of the joint on your piece down to where the stem should end. This range includes 8.9cm and 12.7cm downstems, so compare those figures against your own measurement first.

What is the difference between a male and a female joint? A male joint is the narrower part that slides in, and a female joint is the socket that receives it. A stem listed as 18mm male to 14mm female drops into an 18mm socket and holds a 14mm male cone.

What is a dropcone? A dropcone is the removable cone that seats into the top of the stem and holds the material. Several stems in this range are sold together with a matching dropcone rather than as a bare stem.
