RAW Grinders NZ

RAW is better known in New Zealand for rolling papers, but the brand also puts its name on a small, deliberately plain range of grinders: no colours, no patterns, no novelty shapes. Greenhut stocks the RAW Original range and the RAW x Hammercraft collaboration.

The range

• RAW Original Aluminum Grinder — an aluminium body with precision-cut teeth and a magnetic lid.
• RAW Original Stainless Steel Heavy, 50mm — the heavy one. Stainless steel rather than aluminium, so it is markedly denser in the hand and the hardest body in our grinder range to mark or dent.
• RAW x Hammercraft, 50mm and 55mm — aircraft-grade aluminium bodies from the Hammercraft collaboration, in a natural finish at 50mm and black or red at 55mm. The 55mm gives more capacity per turn; the 50mm is the easier one to hold and pocket.

Choosing between them

Three things separate these models: material (aluminium is lighter, stainless steel is heavier and harder), diameter (50mm handles easily, 55mm takes more in one go), and finish. All use machined teeth and a magnetic lid rather than a friction fit.

What is the difference between the RAW aluminium and stainless steel grinders? The RAW Original is offered in an aluminium body and in a heavier stainless steel version. Aluminium keeps the carry weight down, while the stainless steel model is the solid one of the two.

What is RAW x Hammer Craft? It is a collaboration between RAW and Hammer Craft, and three of the grinders in this small range carry that name. They use aluminium bodies, like the RAW Original aluminium model alongside them.

How many RAW grinders are in this collection? Five in total: the RAW Original aluminium, the RAW Original stainless steel heavy, and three RAW x Hammer Craft aluminium grinders. Each one is listed separately with its own finish.

How do I clean a RAW aluminium grinder? Tap it out, then run a stiff dry brush over the teeth, the screen and the threads. If aluminium has been washed, dry it right through before reassembling so the lid keeps turning freely.
